Rewilding the Barossa: Corporate Volunteering

Committed to sustainability and giving back to the local community, staff from the Endeavour Group (VinPac, Dorrian Estate, Pinnacle Drinks) joined Environmental Connections to help revegetate the Barossa Wildlife Rescue’s Rose Brooks Kangaroo Sanctuary in Lyndoch.

Approximately 400 grasses and 20 new paddock trees were planted within the 13 revegetation pods to increase biodiversity and restore a suite of grassland species across the paddock. The 3 Hectare site has been kindly donated to the Barossa Wildlife Rescue not-for-profit volunteer organisation by Barossa Pavillions to house hand-raised native fauna that is unable to be released back to the wild.

In South Australia it is illegal to release any macrapods (kangaroos, wallabies, euros). There are no records of the number of kangaroo joeys rescued annually, however, there is definitely a shortage of long-term housing for these animals. This sanctuary provides a safe space for many animals including two emus. Staff were keen to support the rewilding project, before enjoying a delicious BBQ, home made carrot cake and some ‘getting to know you’ time with some of the BWR volunteers and rescued joeys.
