Z Ward planting National Trust of South Australia
Environmental Connections joined volunteers of the National Trust of South Australia in an epic planting event on Kaurna country at the grounds of Z Ward, South Australia’s Hospital for the Criminally Insane which closed (thankfully) in 1973. Z Ward’s concrete structure was improved thanks to a Green Adelaide Grassroots Grant to improve biodiversity and habitat in the urban environment.
41 community members participated in the planting with over 500 tubestock kindly donated by City of Burnside community nursery. Families joined in as part of the Children’s University Australasia which really made the day fun with lots of young people getting their hands dirty to help improve the planet for our native fauna and their futures.
